GR10: Pyrenees
Coast to coast across the French Pyrenees, from the Atlantic at Hendaye to the Mediterranean at Banyuls-sur-Mer.
586 miles (943 km), about 191157 ft of ascent, 50 planned days.
Why we chose it
We first came across the GR10 on a trip of day hikes in the Pyrenees in 2022, and it has been on the bucket list ever since.
We love that it simply makes sense: the whole range, from the Atlantic to the Med, on foot. It also means going back to some of the amazing places we only got a glimpse of on that first trip.
Looking forward to
- Cheese and bakery stops in the valley villages
- Going back to places we first saw on day hikes in 2022
- Crossing the whole range, sea to sea
A bit nervous about
- The sheer amount of climbing
- Heat in the lower valleys in midsummer
The practical bits
- When: Mid-June to early August 2027
- Direction: West to east: Hendaye to Banyuls-sur-Mer
- Where we’ll sleep: Mostly camping, with gîtes and huts if the weather turns awful.
- Permits: None needed. The only booking is the Eurostar out.
- Getting there: Train to London, the Eurostar to Paris, then south by train to Hendaye.
Resupply plan
We’ll post food boxes ahead to Mondial Relay pickup points and top up at bakeries and shops on the way.
